First post for careers class... What is a calling?

A calling is different from a job, I think. I hesitant to say the word destiny, because destiny seems to go hand in hand with humanism: the thought that we as humans are completely in control of everything. Instead I'll put God into the equation. I think that God has a perfect plan for our lives. Sometimes we try to "fix" God's plan, and we completely mess ourselves up.

Oh the irony!

Maybe this is why the human body needs so much iron in it's daily intake. To help preserve the normal balance of irony. ;)
Would your job not be your calling?

I guess that your job could be your calling. But I think it depends on the job and your reaction to it. Maybe you have a job that you hate with a fiery passion. I don't think it's your calling if you hate it that much. Maybe something besides your job is your calling , like charity work: you could be always helping out at the refuge and the pregnancy help center on the weekends. It's not your job, but it's what you love and are called to do. But you could have a job that is your calling.
